A Rendering Equation for Specular Transfers and Its Integration into Global Illumination

چکیده
In this paper,we presenta rigorous theoretical formulation of the fundamental problem—indirect illumination from area sources via curved ideal specular surfaces. Intensity and area factors are introduced to clarify this problem and to rectify the radiance from these specular surfaces. They take surface geometry, such as Gaussian curvature, into account. Based on this formulation, an algorithm for integrating ideal specular transfers into global illumination is also presented. This algorithm can deal with curved specular reflectorsand transmitters. An implementation is described based on wavefront tracing and progressive radiosity. Sample images generated by this method are presented.

A Survey of Radiosity and Ray-tracing Methods in Global Illumination
This paper surveys Radiosity and Ray-tracing methods used in global illumination. Global illumination is based on light transport mechanism in real world. The light transport mechanism can be expressed in terms of BRDF of each element, and the most common and practical way is dividing the BRDF into specular and diffuse component. Mathematically Global illumination is a problem of solving numeri...
متن کاملFast Global Illumination Including Specular Effects
Rapidly simulating global illumination, including diffuse and glossy light transport is a very difficult problem. Finite element or radiosity approaches can achieve interactive simulations for some classes of diffuse-only scenes, but more general methods are currently too slow and too noisy for interactive use. We present a new method which seamlessly integrates particle tracing (for nondiffuse...
متن کاملInteractive Global Illumination using Fast Ray Tracing
Rasterization hardware provides interactive frame rates for rendering dynamic scenes, but lacks the ability of ray tracing required for efficient global illumination simulation. Existing ray tracing based methods yield high quality renderings but are far too slow for interactive use. We present a new parallel global illumination algorithm that perfectly scales, has minimal preprocessing and com...
متن کاملA Practical Algorithm for Rendering All-Frequency Interreflections
Algorithms for rendering interreflection (or indirect illumination) effects often make assumptions about the frequency range of the materials’ reflectance properties. For example, methods based on Virtual Point Lights (VPLs) and global photon maps perform well for diffuse and semi-glossy materials but not so for highly-glossy or specular materials; the situation is reversed for methods based on...

The rendering software supports direct point lighting and also environment lighting. We approximate environment lighting based on captured lighting environments. We use an image-based environment illumination technique to light the face with a specified environment map. An example is shown in Figure 1.The environment map is prefiltered with several blur kernels, for diffuse integration, glossy ...
